Il KR-55C di Cherry Audio è un'emulazione software supercarica, che combina le caratteristiche di due drum machine meno conosciute dell'era post-punk: il "Rhythm 55" KR-55A e KR-55B di Korg. Il KR-55C vanta tutti i ritmi di entrambi i modelli, per un totale di 240 pattern, intros e fills di fabbrica. Inoltre, aggiunge 200 pattern e kit originali che coprono una gamma più ampia di generi. L'interfaccia utente del KR-55C cambia in base al modello A o B selezionato e include pagine extra che permettono a questa beatbox di "uscire" ancora di più. Presenta un layout familiare a 16 pulsanti in stile X0X per l'editing step e la programmazione in tempo reale dei pattern, oltre a una modalità canzone per concatenare fino a 99 pattern.
Cherry Audio ha ricreato perfettamente i suoni del KR-55 utilizzando varie tecniche di sintesi, fornendo agli utenti parametri modificabili come accordatura ed EQ per ciascun strumento. Le sezioni mixer ed effetti consentono l'elaborazione separata di ciascun suono, con funzionalità che includono panning, mute/solo, overdrive, flanger/chorus, delay e riverbero. Include anche un compressore bus e un limiter per il controllo dell'ampiezza master. Il KR-55C offre funzionalità compatibili con DAW come auto-sync, esportazione MIDI drag-and-drop, uscite individuali e complete capacità di automazione.
Il KR-55 originale è stato introdotto nel 1979 come sostituto delle più semplici drum machine Mini Pops 35 e Mini Pops 120. Anche se tutti questi modelli erano solo preset senza opzione per ritmi programmati dall'utente, il KR-55 rappresentava un significativo avanzamento. Nel 1982, è stata rilasciata la versione aggiornata KR-55B, che presentava un design elegante e raddoppiava la memoria interna dei pattern. I pattern e i fills sono stati anche rivisti, con pochissimi pattern identici condivisi tra il KR-55A e il KR-55B.
